About The How To Dispose of Idea

Hello and Welcome…

Hello and welcome to the new How To Dispose Of project idea.

October 15th, 2007 I found myself out in the garage cleaning up the tools and building materials I’ve let pile up in there (in another life I’m living I’m a building & remodeling contractor) and I run across a couple of old air conditioners tucked behind the 1974 Dodge Dart that is stored in there too and I think…

"Geez,… what’s the best* way to get rid of these old units? In fact what’s the best way to get rid of all this old junk in here?"

(*- best means environmentally sensitive and socially responsible)

While the first thing I very obviously thought of was to check the web I began to think wouldn’t it be great if there was one web site that told you not just How To Dispose Of the thing you were thinking of getting rid of at the moment but gave you solutions for getting rid of the rest of that stuff that was cluttering up you life that was probably sitting right next to the stuff you had to get rid of.

Co-opting the phrase from Robert Frost’s great poem The Road Not Taken…’knowing how way leads on to way’ I figured if we could provide an individual or an organization with a environmentally sensitive and/or socially responsible way to get rid of some of their garbage then they hopefully will continue to seek and use environmentally sensitive and/or socially responsible ways to dispose of more of their waste and clutter in the future.

So I called up my brother Phil and threw out this idea for a new web site on How To Dispose Of stuff and maybe an hour later we had HowToDisposeOf.com in the works.

Now we need your help to make this all work. While Phil and I are going to be researching and writting as we work to dispose of the clutter, waste, and garbage we’ve generated in our lives we wont come up with all the answers or even all the problems. Plus a disposal solution that works in Katonah NY or Monroe CT may not apply to someone in Kallispell MT or Wickenburg AZ. So give us your ideas and solutions however localized and specialized they may be becuse they may apply to somebody somewhere and help with global problem we are creating for our children. Fill out or contact form and tell us about your questions ideas and solutions for How To Dispose Of… If you like to blog here with us tell us that too.

Can this make a difference? We don’t really know for sure but it was Margaret Mead (1901-1978) U.S. Anthropologist and Author that once wrote:

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has."

Help us try. Send us your questions and answers when you have them and we’ll publish them here.
